Discussion: Metabolic Disorder and Uses of NER Herbal Medicines

The IBSD organized a brainstorming session and discussion on
“Metabolic Disorder and Uses of NER Herbal Medicines”

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. from India held a brainstorming and discussion on “Metabolic Disorder and Uses of NER Herbal Medicines” at IBSD, Imphal on 05 July 2022, with the active leadership of Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director, IBSD , Imphal until 2022 to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” with the participation of renowned scientists and experts in the field of metabolic disorders. The deliberations of resource persons related to metabolic disorders resource persons definitely enrich the knowledge and interest of IBSD students/researchers.

During the program, Professor Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director of IBSD, welcomes all guests and participants; highlighted various research initiatives taken by IBSD in the field of metabolic disorders to explore the rich bioresource of NER.

Dr. Niloo Srivastava, Scientist, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi has highlighted various aspects of plant research and development to inspire young researchers to pursue their research work with enthusiasm. The rally was then delivered by Dr. Ravinder Goswami, Professor, All Indoa Institute of Medocal Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

Professor Goswami expands on the different unmet needs for metabolic disorders with a particular focus on diabetes and its clinical complications. Dr. Jatin Kalita, Scientist, North Eastern Institute of Science and Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Jorhat, Assam, addresses the gathering and emphasizes research ethics and its importance for the pursuit of a research career.

Ayurvedic practitioner Dr. Pushkar Dev from New Delhi discussed the different complications and treatment procedures to treat and manage diabetes and kidney stones. Dr Sanjay K Banerjee, Asso. Prof., National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education Research (NIPER), Guwahati discussed several critical and contemporary issues in the exploration of natural products in cardio-metabolic disorders. He also addressed young researchers to collaborate in order to strengthen their translational research results.

Another Principal Investigator, Dr. Ajay Kumar from Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad, delivered a lecture on different phenotypic models for drug development in metabolic disorders.

Dr. Prasenjit Manna from CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat addressed the gathering and explained in detail the application of traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of metabolic disorders.

Other scientists, namely Dr. Tulika Goswami, Professor, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Assam; Dr. AKS Rawat, Director, Former Scientist, NBRI, Lucknow and Dr. Jeemon Panniyammakal, Associate Professor, SCTIMST, Trivandrum also highlighted different aspects of drug discovery and development by exploring NER plant bioresources in disorders metabolic. This program brought together more than 150 participants.

On behalf of IBSD, Dr. S. Indira Devi, Scientist, IBSD expressed sincere thanks to all experts, participants and the organizing team for making this event so engaging, interactive and successful in every way. .
